Promana's story began in the 1970s when Mike Dakin, an industrial relations expert, government advisor and management consultant, set out to improve upon psychometric assessments that dwelt too heavily on personality traits.

Early prototyping

Dissatisfied with existing instruments that focused on personality, Mike Dakin began early prototyping of a system for assessing and describing performance-critical behaviours

1980
Performance Factor Analysis introduced

Following successful prototyping and with positive early feedback from clients, the first commercial offering entered the space, branded as Performance Factor Analysis

1981
Major sector adoption

Performance Factor Analysis gained traction in several well recognised sectors in the New Zealand market, including telecoms, aviation, local government, ministries, and distribution

1985
Rebranded as Profiles for People

A period of rebranding during which the business became known as the Professional Management Consulting Group, and Performance Factor Analysis became known as Profiles for People (PfP)

1991
Mike steps back

Looking for a change of pace, Mike steps back from active involvement in the business. Son Peter purchases the intellectual property for PfP

1998
Initial online version - "PfP-live!"

Pete creates the initial prototype version of PfP for internet users

2000
Sailing away

PfP is given preliminary approval for inclusion in the 2001 Volvo Ocean Race

2014
API introduced

With interest growing in Europe, our first API goes live. Businesses can now create their own private behavioural data sets.

2019
Career development adoption

With the business now operating in Europe as Promana Solutions, PfP is selected as the service of choice for a disruptive startup based out of Ireland

2020
Rebranded as Promana

Business relocated back to its roots in New Zealand. With the move comes the opportunity to explore new branding opportunities. Promana is (re)born.
